From Ashes To New Norfolk Concert reviews
Nice show
From the legendary artists list, one that I have never seen in concert is From Ashes To New. She did not disappoint. She looked wonderful at 76 years old, and she is still a marvelous singer; although no longer a soprano, her voice is still clear and recognizable, and she still has excellent vocal command. Her 4 piece band was tremendous, covering most of her hits. She was totally at ease with the audience, joking, telling a few stories. One downer for me was her tendency to play very clipped versions of some of her hits. I did not like her "21st Century" remake of "I Say a Little Prayer". The classic well-known version of that song should have been left alone and is perfect. Notably absent were "Heartbreaker", "Deja Vu", & "Trains & Boats & Planes". Also, I did not care for her opening act, "The Silver Stars". This vocal trio sang for 1/2 hour and did a bunch of obscure '70s R&B hits, all but the first song slow & tedious & boring. They sang over tracks - no live music backing them, which I do not approve. All in all, thanks to From Ashes To New, it was a fine evening.
